  
Israel's Gaza Blockade Continues To Suffocate Daily Life

Israel must end its suffocating blockade of the Gaza Strip, which leaves more than 1.4 million Palestinians cut off from the outside world and struggling with desperate poverty, Amnesty International said one year on from the end of Israel's military offensive in Gaza.

The academic freedom and professional rights of higher education teaching personnel in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza are increasingly under assault as a result of the continuing political conflict in the region, according to a report released by Education International and the Canadian Association of University Teachers. The report goes on to detail how many of the violations of academic freedom in the West Bank and Gaza are a result of the Israeli occupation.

Israel pulls textbook over reference to 'ethnic cleansing' of the Palestinians

The Ministry of Education in Israel pulled a history textbook because it includes a passage that describes the 1948 expulsion of Palestinians in the creation of the state of Israel as 'Ethnic Cleansing.' 
838 Students Still Trying to Leave Gaza for Study Abroad

Once again, following the start of the academic year at many institutions of higher education around the world, some 838 Palestinian students are still waiting to leave Gaza to study abroad.The students cannot leave due to the Israeli-imposed closure of the Gaza Strip and the rigid criteria for exit via the Erez and Rafah border crossings.

Goldstone Report expresses alarm at the detention of hundreds of young children

On 15 September 2009, the Goldstone Mission published a 575 page report based on the United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict (the Report). The fact finding mission was established by the UN in April 2009, following the 23 day war in Gaza which killed over 1,400 hundred Palestinians, including 353 children.
