Report, Right to Education Campaign, Birzeit University, 10 November 2004
On Wednesday, 10 November, the Israeli Army created two checkpoints, blocking all access to and from Birzeit University in both directions. All students and faculty trying to leave the University were prevented from reaching either of the two nearest towns to the University, Ramallah and Birzeit.
On a day with emotions already running high due to the situation with President Yasser Arafat, students demonstrated against the checkpoint and soldiers responded by shooting live bullets. No one has yet been reported injured, but an ambulance is on the scene.
Students and faculty have now been waiting at the University for at least two hours, to hear news of when the Israeli Army will leave and the road opened so they can go home.
