About The Campaign

Syndicate This Site

Birzeit University's Right To Education Campaign website is intended to reach as wide as possible an audience. As such we have built in E-mail This Page and Print This Page functions to encourage dissemination of the information on this website. A third option is our syndication function, aimed at either related organisations or supportive individuals that maintain their own websites.

"Syndication" is traditionally defined as the dissemination of "articles, features, or photographs for publication in a number of newspapers or periodicals simultaneously." On the Internet, available technology enables us to offer other websites the option of incorporating headlines and summaries from articles on our website, with links to the full articles, through a simple process.

Our easy-to-use Webfeed Generator allows you to select from either all of the sections of our site, or from specific sections, and customise the fonts, colours, dimensions, and the number of headlines/dates/summaries you wish to display on your site. Once you select the options you want for your site, you simply click on the View Code link and copy the HTML to your website page. From this point, you need do nothing else.

The Webfeed Generator, showing the creation of a 400 pixel wide, two article webfeed from the Activism News section, with headline, date and summary.

How it works is that the moment we add a new article or other feature to our site, visitors to your site will automatically see the new article listed in the headlines. More dynamic than a simple link to us, syndication benefits your site by creating something known as "the portal effect" on the Web — even though some of the content on your site leads elsewhere, the fact that it is regularly changing and updating makes your page fresh when visitors come to it, encouraging them to bookmark and return the text.

If you want to include headlines from more than one section of our site, but not from every section, just follow the process to generate headlines for one feed using the Category pulldown menu in the Webfeed Generator to select the section you want, then repeat the process to generate additional code for all the sections you want. To syndicate material from every section, leave the default "All Categories" option in the Category pulldown menu.

Finally, if you use a webfeed from us, please contact us to let us know, so that we can offer links to examples of webfeeds in action.
