Detention extended for 8 Palestinian students to allow “further investigation”
The Israeli military court at Ofer detention center in the West Bank extended the detention of eight Palestinian students until 14 December on Wednesday citing a need for ‘further investigation.’
The court rejected a petition to release these detained students on bail. The students all attend a school in Al-Arroub, in the southern West Bank.
The children are accused of throwing stones at Israeli troops.
Mahmoud Hassan, an attorney for the Addameer Prisoners’ Support and Human Rights Association, condemned the court’s decision, saying the students will be prevented from continuing their studies. Hassan added that the detention center where the youths are held “lacks the minimum requirements of humanitarian law.”
The students were arrested from their classrooms after Israeli soldiers attacked the school with tear gas and bullets.
