Right to Education

Birzeit University community stands as one against Israeli military raid on campus

At 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 over one-hundred Israeli soldiers broke through the main campus gate, assaulted and detained several security guards, tore down the Palestinian Flag at the center of campus, and raided the faculties of Graduate StudiesScience; and Pharmacy, Nursing and Health Professions.

Standing as one, Birzeit faculty, staff, and students organized an assembly, which denounced the military raid on campus, restored the Palestinian flag in affirmation of the pivotal national role that the University has played since its establishment, and voiced their commitment to the right to education and to the Palestinian struggle for freedom and independence.

The Israeli military has repeatedly attacked Birzeit University community in violation of international law, which mandates that occupying powers have an obligation to ensure unimpeded access to education. Birzeit University calls upon all supporters of justice and freedom to protest Israeli violations of Palestinian rights and to stand in solidarity with Birzeit University’s mission to produce knowledge and provide high quality education.
