PA tax revenue withheld by Israel: impacts education

Written by admin  •  Tuesday, 19.02.2013, 13:17

Tax revenue withheld from the PA by Israel led to a general strike on Sunday, closing schools in the West Bank as teachers protest late payments.

The tax revenues from December, amounting up to $100 million collected on behalf of the PA under interim peace deals, were delayed from the 14th February due to a ‘political decision’ by the Israel.

Ma’an states that Israel has been ‘…withholding the funds as punishment for the UN’s acceptance of Palestine as a non-member state in November.’

Health workers announced they would also go on full strike this week, offering only emergency services in hospitals and medical centres. Teachers are expected to carry on this week.
