Following a months-long collaboration between Birzeit University (Palestine), Massachusetts College of Art and Design students for Palestine (USA), and Network For Art Students in Resistance (Japan), and the International Art Academies for Palestine Coalition, the concluded as part of the ” Palestine, Our Warm Home ” exhibition where it was a powerful testament to international solidarity and creative resistance.
This cross-border educational and artistic initiative brought together over 50 students from Palestine and across the globe through a series of four online poster design workshops held in March 2025. The project, co-coordinated by Right to Education Campaign of Birzeit University, Faculty of Art, Music, and Design of Birzeit University, MassArt4Palestine, and Network For Art Students in Resistance, invited students to explore the role of poster art and design as a form of visual protest and cultural resistance.
The workshops featured renowned artists and scholars including Chandni Desai, Omayma Dajani, Yosra El-Gazzar, and Ahmed Saqfalhait, who guided participants through sessions on typography, visual messaging, and the political history of Palestinian poster art, Students collaboratively developed original posters that speak to the Palestinian struggle, resilience, and hope—drawing from personal and collective experiences under occupation.
Born out of a shared desire for connection and solidarity, the initiative brought together students and educators from Palestine, USA, Japan along with many other Arab and global countries to build bridges across geographies and struggles. Rooted in the values of the Right to Education Campaign at Birzeit, the workshops created a space where artistic expression became a form of resistance, and education itself a radical act.
Through these four workshops, participants explored how poster design has historically functioned as a tool to raise awareness and ignite change—from Palestine to other global movements. Each student brought their unique cultural lens to the process, unified by a belief that the Palestinian cause is part of a broader global struggle for justice, freedom, and human dignity.
From over 75 applications, 55 participants were selected, representing a diverse cohort: 27 students from Palestine and 28 international students, including five Japanese participants. Their work culminates in a stunning poster design that was part of the annual exhibition titled “Palestine, Our Warm Home “, which was held in Matsudo, Japan, from May 2–7, 2025.
In the spirit of that dedicated solidarity, all proceeds from poster designs sales will go to the welfare (Taawon) ISNAD Program to support the resilience of universities and higher education students in Gaza.
