The Right to Education Marathon (United against scholasticide)

In partnership with Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Birzeit University, Birzeit University Friends Association, Higher Council for Youth and Sport/Palestine Marathon (PIM), Welfare Association (Taawon) and Gazan Universities, we are delighted to invite you to participate in the United Against Scholasticide Marathon, taking place on November 29, 2024. Coinciding with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, this event takes place a year following the genocide in Gaza.

Scholasticide, a term first coined by Palestinian Professor Karma Nabulsi in 2009, has been adopted globally since the start of the unfolding genocide in Gaza. It is a term that embodies all types of education, including schools universities and all forms of knowledge. It describes the systematic destruction of academic and cultural institutions, with the aim of not only to stifle the physical infrastructure of knowledge, but also to annihilate the intellectual growth of Palestinian people.

International Participation for 5K & Family Walk:

We invite our international partners to participate in this event, emphasizing the importance of global solidarity and collaboration. This event will be a large-scale national and international campaign, uniting all academic institutions across Palestine and across the world as powerful collective effort to resist the ongoing Scholasticide campaign. We call to work together to rebuild the destroyed universities and reject all plans that aim to bypass, erase and weaken the integrity of the academic institutions in Gaza.

All proceeds will go to support Gazan universities through ISNAD, the initiative for the higher education sector in Gaza, launched by the Taawon Association, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and in coordination with Gazan Universities.

The official uniform for the marathon is a black top and pants.

We stand together united in our transnational collective responsibility that demands unified and bridged action to support Gazan universities and to put an end to the ongoing Scholasticide.
