All Turkish students on Tuesday stood in silence tribute to the Palestinians killed in the Israeli offensive, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
Turkey’s Education Ministry earlier issued a directive calling for a minute of silence for those Palestinian victims under Israeli offensive, the latest move of the government to show its disapproval of the recent situation in Gaza.
“This show of respect damns the cruelty in Palestine, and shows solidarity with the Palestinian people,” said the report, citing the directive.
More than 930 Palestinians, about half of them civilians, were killed in Gaza in the 18-day-old Israeli offensive against Hamas.
The Turkish government has harshly slammed the Israeli operations in Gaza.
Earlier, the Istanbul municipality cancelled New Year celebrations in Taksim Square amid ongoing protests against Israel.
