Science and research cannot be neutral in the face of oppression and human rights violations.

This academic institution commits to uphold universal principles of human rights and international law, to refrain from doing undue harm, and to ensure basic ethical standards.

As such, this institution will not maintain or initiate academic relations with entities (universities or other institutions) that knowingly and persistently perpetrate or significantly and verifiably contribute to or facilitate, through long-term structural complicity across the institution, gross human rights violations, especially war crimes, crimes against humanity (including apartheid), and genocide.

To implement this policy, this institution commits to:

  • Review all current ties with universities and other entities in other countries, immediately suspend institutional relations with those that prove to be complicit, as described above, and end such relations altogether within a reasonable and justifiable timeframe.
  • Refrain from entering into bilateral or multilateral institutional relations with entities in other countries that prove to be complicit, as described above.
  • Form an inclusive monitoring committee from the university community, with meaningful student, faculty, and staff union/council representation, and periodically report to this committee on the implementation of the policy.
